In regard to yellowjackets feeding on dead birds in nestbox, I experienced a
nestbox of bird deaths with swallows, too, only ours were violet-green
instead of tree swallows. An adult v-g swallow and three partially grown
but feathered young all found dead. I blame English sparrows for killing
them. I was having some problems keeping the sparrows from stealing the box
from the swallows, when we left for a week on vacation. The swallows were
OK when we left. When we got back the swallows were gone, but the English
sparrows weren't around the box, either. I assumed the young had fledged,
and only discovered the dead family when I took down the box to clean it.
