Today (08-01-06) a total of 12 species, 28 individuals were captured at the Applegate River banding station (just west of Provolt, Josephine Co).
Of interest:
Recaptured YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT (Age - Second Year; Unknown sex, possibly male) that was banded by someone else. No details yet on the bird; reported to BBL. Using human logic, likely banded at the Wildlife Images station along the Rogue River about 17 miles to the northeast. Using Chat logic...who knows where it was banding (the BBL hopefully).
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER - 1st bird captured here during MAPS station operation in 10 years of banding. Was a juvenile; another bird seen (likely an adult, really beat up plumage). Both early arrivers at the site. Also, juvenile male WILSON'S WARBLER captured.
lots of WESTERN TANAGERS and BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK around foraging on Blackberries; many captured. One BULLOCK'S ORIOLE captured.
One SWAINSON'S THRUSH, dispersing bird, likely a male but out of breeding condition.
Dennis (north of Grants Pass)
