Hello All,
This last Wed.(2 Aug.) we encountered a small shallow gravel pit pond on the
Umatilla National Forest off the 6413 Rd. that hosted good bird species
diversity. We observed the following species........

Chipping Sparrow........18 birds
Cassins Finch................9 birds
Mountain Bluebirds.......3 birds
Am. Robin.....................2 birds
Western Tanager............1 bird
Vaux's Swift....................1 bird
Common Nighthawk........3 birds
Gray Jay..........................2 birds
Stellers Jay.......................2 birds
and also four Tiger Salamander larvae, one which we caught and photographed.
There were also large numbers of Pacific Chorus Frogs that had gone through
recent metamorphosis. Very interesting site. This is only the third record
of Tiger Salamander in Wallowa County I am aware of.
Thats it
Later Mike
