[obol] S. Eugene Bobwhite

This morning, we awoke to the sound of a Northern Bobwhite. Seems
somewhat importable considering where we live. For those familiar
with Eugene, we live along the portion of Lorane Highway, about
halfway between Friendly and Chambers Streets. It's a suburban
neighborhood with plenty of large Douglas-firs surrounding us. Not
Bobwhite habitat, even if they were supposed to be here.

About an hour after the calling stopped, we actually saw the bird as
it wandered through our backyard. A new yard bird, although obviously
released from somewhere. It was just last month that I hear them
calling at Meadowlark Prairie in the west Eugene wetlands. I can only
assume that some local feed store is selling chicks or eggs and
people are turning out the birds or they have escaped. In any case,
it was certainly an interesting start to the day.
