Marilyn and I decided to bird Jefferson County Saturday afternoon
(August 5, 2006). We began our count at Rimrock springs at about 2
PM. Birds were few and far between as we wandered the county until we
reached the EYERLY BURN south of Lake Billy Chinook, where we hit the
jackpot! (We did not bird the lake itself, but there was no choice
for EYERLY BURN in Birdnotes) One of the best areas was the road
leading to Perry South Campground. I have pinpointed the locations of
the more interesting species by gps. Highlights include numerous
LEWIS'S WOODPECKERS, MOUNTAIN QUAIL, 3 WILD TURKEYS (new for our
county list), and an adult BALD EAGLE. (note: Wild Turkey is not
mentioned in the list because it was not available on the birdnotes
census list)
