[obol] Dipper habitat

A couple friends just returned from 3 days of backpacking near
Diamond Peak. While camped at a small lake at about 6500 ft, they
observed what they thought was a dipper walking along on some rocks
along the shore. Periodically, it would jump in the water, stick its
head under, submerge for a few seconds and then jump on a rock and
start the routine all over again. BOGR and the field guides list
their habitat as rivers and streams but I couldn't find any reference
to lakes. There was no stream in the immediate area though there was
evidence that in spring there would be runoff coming into the lake.
They thought the bird had some white on the throat so perhaps it was
a juvenile. Anyone else find them on lakes?
