No doubt others have been seeing WANDERING TATTLERS on their southward
journey already, but I saw my first one for the season today at Arch Cape in
Clatsop County. Still appeared to be mostly in breeding plumage. (photo at

The minus 1.7 low tide at 7:30 this morning made it possible to walk around
well-below most of the anemones, mussels and seastars attached to the rocks,
and the birds in the area seemed to be making the most of the opportunity.
A male HARLEQUIN DUCK there appeared to be about half changed into or out of
breeding plumage. Do they have an eclipse plumage? Would a young of the
year already be showing the adult plumage pattern?
