On Sunday morning, Aug. 13th there was a fairly good migrant flock
of birds moving through our property on Mt. Pleasant, Skamania County.
Obvious migrant species were 2 PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, 3 WARBLING
VIREOS, 6 RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, 2 ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS, 1
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER, 1 TOWNSEND'S WARBLER, 1 HERMIT WARBLER, 2
MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLERS, and 8 WILSON'S WARBLERS.
Thinking that there might be a movement of birds in Clark County,
I checked the Vancouver Lake Lowlands where the best bird that I found
was a male MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD near the Flushing Channel. I was surprised
to find no Western Grebes on Vancouver Lake and the water too high for
shorebirds. I drove North to the Ridgefield NWR River "S" Unit and found
an adult BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON on Long Lake, 1 STILT SANDPIPER and 3
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES on Rest Lake. I had a tantalizing glimpse of a
large gray shorebird that disappeared behind the grass clumps on Rest
Lake that gave me an initial impression of a Willet, but I could not
relocate the bird for confirmation.
