We have red breasted nuthatches all year round at our suet feeders and water
bowls here in SW Portland.
During the last 2 weeks camping at Little Lava Lake (SW of Bend on Century
Drive) we saw 3or 4 Nighthawks every day in the morning and evening. And
there were lots of butterflies which I guess were the California
Tortoiseshells. They were mostly on the damp, low spots around the lake and
not in the numbers mentioned by some people. We saw over 30 species of
birds, a family group of 4 otters, a beaver, and many deer in the campground
and around the lake on our daily canoe trips.
