The buff breasted sandpiper was feeding in the open in the northwest corner of the Redhead pond at Fern Ridge this morning. I missed it walking south but found it on the way back to the parking lot off Royal Ave at around 1040. It was feeding pretty much by itself, 30-50 feet back from the water's edge. There is the shaft and fletching of an arrow sticking up from the mud in this corner and it stayed pretty near this landmark. South along the dyke were western and least sandpiper, greater and lesser yellowleg, a single juv. lb dowitcher, virginia rail. I saw no plovers. A peregrine made a lazy flyover. Bird on, Randy S.
