Below is Ralph Browning's directions to the Lawrence's goldfinch seen at Valley of the Rogue Park as posted on the local Audubon website. Also, the first county record Long-tailed duck was seen by several birders this morning from the fishing access road on the south side of the dam at Lost Creek Lake. Another bird of note was a leucistic Common Raven seen along the river between the dam and Trail community.

Valley of the Rogue State Park, 1 December. Nothing much until I checked out a couple of pesky goldfinches that caught my attention. One was a male Lawrence's Goldfinch. A female, which I did not get as good a look at, was probably also a Lawrence's. The two were found at the river's edge from the trail that begins from the parking lot of the so-called Program Area. Enter the park and turn toward the camping areas. Follow the main road (downstream), turn left of gravel of Program Area, drive toward river and park. Walk gravel trail to a fork, turn left and look near the plastic international orange barricade. The birds flew following about a minute of observation. They might stay in the region. One thing to check--if any campers are feeding birds.
