Obolinks,

Opposition to the LNG terminal and pipeline to be built at the old WeyCo birding destination known as North Spit has become news. The Eugene Register-Guard today (Dec. 3, 2006) has a article on page 1 of the Business section entitled "Opposition Pipes Up".

Some folks in the Coos Bay/North Bend area are voicing opposition to the siting of the Liquid Natural Gas project. The gist of the article is that since the 2005 energy bill was passed by Congress, the authority for siting LNG terminals in the USA lies with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Local and state entities can weigh in, but the authority to give a thumbs up or down is limited. Evidently most of the gas will be piped to California, but because of opposition (residents hired lawyers) in California, the sites that were being considered there were abandoned. No one in the Coos Bay area seems to be throwing money at lawyers, so right now it looks gloomy if you do not want the terminal to be built there.

The full story can be seen on the paper's website. Go to www.registerguard.com and click on the "Business" link on the left hand side. The link to the LNG story is the second one down on that page.

Seems like a good time to let your voices be heard.
