I have posted a copy of Tim's site guide to the Weyerhauser settling pond
site on an Oregon Birds web site at the following address:

http://home.centurytel.net/oregonbirds/

The web site is sort of temporary (a work in progress) but has examples of
material from Oregon Birds - the cover of the latest issue of Oregon Birds,
Field Notes from Fall 2005, and now, the site guide.

I hope this will help people provide feedback to the Port of Coos Bay.

Let me know what you all think,

Jeff Harding
Editor, Oregon Birds

Subject: [obol] Oregon Birds Site Guide

The latest Oregon Birds magazine just came out with a
site guide to the old Weyerhaeuser settling pond site
on the North Spit of Coos Bay, a fantastic birding
spot many of you are already familiar with. I talked
Jeff Harding into printing the article even though the
site is officially closed for a reason. I was hoping
some of you would e-mail the Port of Coos Bay (address
included in the article)who know owns the site and let
them know that its too bad the site cannot be opened
up for bird watching. Also, it would be good to
mention that you hope that they preserve the site for
birding and wetland habitat and consider using it as a
mitigation site that could use enhancement work to
maintain its present early seral wetland habitat.

I nominated this site for inclusion in the Oregon
Coast Birding Trail, but Dawn Grafe was refused
permission by Port authorities to include the site.
Also, they would not even give us permission to access
the site for the Oregon Shorebird Festival last fall
(a shocker if you ask me). They need to hear from a
few more folks that this is a valuable birding site
and should remain open.

Once again, here is there web-site address:
www.portofcoosbay.com

You can contact them from this site and send them
feedback if you wish.

Thanks so much for your help!
Tim Rodenkirk
