I thought I saw nest material in
the beak of a female Anna's late last week
in west Portland. Several people have commented
on the unusually early singing of Song Sparrows.
I saw fully open catkins ("pussy willows")on a
willow just off Hwy 6(Tillamook Jct of Hwy 26)
this weekend. I have seen this often on the
lower Coquille River in early December, but
this deep into NW Oregon, and no heat island
either. The floor of the Tualitin Valley has
had the coldest temperatures in Washington Co
for several weeks. Given that the photoperiod
is still growing shorter, I'm at a bit of a loss.
