Those long tails are actually camoflagued radio antennas transmitting GPS
signals...

Subject: [obol] 2 long tailed ducks - Jackson County

The population of LONG-TAILED DUCKS in Jackson County has skyrocketed to
two. I stopped by the spillway at Lost Creek Reservoir to see if the single
female was still hanging out there. For a moment I thought my binos were
out of alignment and I was seeing double. There was s second female
swimming in close formation with the first. She was still there when I put
the binos down and looked bare-eyed. This raises the interesting question -
if they are so rare, how do they find each other without reading OBOL?
