We saw lots of cool birds this morning on the Yaquina Birders & Naturalists
fieldtrip but the highlight for me was seeing 3 adult and 2 juvenile
Black-crowned Night Herons roosting in trees by the log pond at the end of the
Hatfield Nature Trail (maybe the first time I've ever seen the juveniles)...and
I thought maybe others might be interested in re-locating these. There was also
a female kingfisher that made quite a hit.

Not a comprehensive list but we also saw some Western Meadowlarks in a tree by
the HMSC visitor center parking lot, a large flock of pintails with some
wigeons mixed in on the nature trail (people looked for but did not find the
Eurasian Wigeon), Mew Gulls, Eared Grebes, Western Grebes (and maybe Clark's
Grebes - I learned how similar these look in the winter), Peregrine Falcon, GBH
(of course but always cool), Anna Hummingbird at one of the feeders, a LARGE
flock of shorebirds on the beach south of the south jetty including lots of
sanderlings but also sandpipers mixed in (dogs were scaring them away so didn't
get close enough or have time to identify them all), a rock piper and a
turnstone on the jetty rocks, lots of bufflehead, a few harlequin ducks (they
never look quite real to me), common loons, and all the other usual suspects
between the jetties.

No phalaropes and no snowy owl.
