How do you thaw it? I've heard rumors that some put a electric light-bulb
underneath theirs but that involves running an extension cord out to the
feeder and I worry about squirrels, birds or racoons chewing on it....

After having my hummingbird feeders up for a couple weeks I was finally
rewarded with an adult male ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD three times this morning.  I
did have to go out and thaw the feeder.
