If it's going to be in the mid-20's or lower, I usually just store my sugar-water feeder in the bathtub overnight.  Of course, you have to get up relatively early, as Anna's like to show up well before sunrise (they're usually stopping by my feeder at about 6:45 am at this time of the year).  Sometimes (like last night), only some of the water freezes and the ice floats sits a the top, away from the feeding ports.

I think I might be the only person in Western OR that sees at least two Anna's a day, but has never seen a freaking Towhee.

How do you thaw it? I've heard rumors that some put a electric light-bulb
underneath theirs but that involves running an extension cord out to the
feeder and I worry about squirrels, birds or racoons chewing on it....
