Hello folks,

This morning I encountered three flocks of 4, 6, and 8+ WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS in the NE corner of E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area, plus one single
a bit west of headquarters, to make at least 20 in the north half of the
wildlife area.

The three flocks were all in about 5 acres of soggy woods to the
northeast of the old Great Horned Owl nest used to be in cottonwoods 1/3
mile north of the angling pond (That nest seems to have come down now --
thanks to Tom & Jeanne Griffith for noticing this -- so we'll need to
figure out a new landmark for that corner of the refuge). This same area
hosted a flock of 10+ White-throated Sparrows a couple of winters ago.

Scores of VARIED THRUSHES and hundreds of AMERICAN ROBINS, along with
dozens of YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS, are patronizing the many apple trees
which were overloaded with fruit this year. The full list is on
www.birdnotes.net.

Happy birding,
Joel
