Hello folks,

This morning I found a COMMON NIGHTHAWK nest at E.E. Wilson Wildlife
Area in Benton Co. The mother flew off the nest when I passed by, and
performed a distraction display about 5 m away while I quickly scanned
the nest and moved on. The nest contained one fat chick (with a few pin
feathers coming in). This was in the same spot (within a few meters) of
where a nighthawk performing a distraction display was seen last July.

The Red-eyed Vireo was seen again today by Joe Fontaine and Jamie
Simmons. It seems to be patrolling a territory near the location of the
original report.

Jamie, Joe and I saw four (five?) medium-large gulls flying over high,
east to west, the first gulls I have seen in the valley in months.
California was our best guess but none of us were sure. They were
definitely missing some flight feathers.

Later on a LAZULI BUNTING pair was feeding noisy youngsters in a nest in
our backyard just across the highway from E.E. Wilson Wildlife Area.

Good birding,
Joel
