Sooty and coastal have two vowels together the first time a vowel appears
in the words. They share a type of "o" sound.
Dusky and interior have a single vowel the first time a vowel appears.

The names are so similar in meaning that I find it hard to remember. (Answer: Sooty is the more coastal one, Dusky is the interior one.)
