Yesterday (11 July 2006) during a check of the Necanicum River Estuary
(between Seaside and Gearhart, Clatsop Co.) I saw the first juvenile
CALIFORNIA GULLS. There were about 10 in the greater flock of 150 or so
scraggled-plumaged California Gulls older than a year. I presume these
birds came from breeding areas on Miller Island in the Columbia River
west of the Descutes River mouth or some other nearby breeding local.

A GREAT EGRET is still frequenting Stanley Lake (of Mongolian Plover
2005 fame) where the conditions are good for shorebirds during mid and
low tides.

A dead adult CASSIN'S AUKLET was a recent wash up at The Cove.
