Juncos are a fairly widespread breeder above the valley floor in Eugene
wherever there are stands of older Douglas-fir, but are patchy within the
flat part of the city, mainly (as far as I can tell) because there are few
clusters of older evergreens with nearby underbrush in the flat parts of
Eugene.
A few pairs usually breed on the University of Oregon campus, where they use
astonishingly thin ground habitat. Two adjacent bushes, each two feet
across and reaching the ground, seem to be enough, but almost always right
next to a huge Douglas-fir.
