29 July 2006
Necanicum River Estuary, Clatop Co.

I checked the estuary an hour after the med. high tide this afternoon.

There were at least 1500 CALIFORNIA GULLS with at least 500 HEERMAN'S
GULLS 200 BROWN PELICANS and 200 CASPIAN TERNS in the estuary. Many more
birds are feeding on bait of The Cove and up the beach in Gearhart.

Shorebird numbers were low except for SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS which remain
at about 150. Fifty or so peeps included a couple juvenal WESTERN and a
single juvenal LEAST SANDPIPER. A juvenal each of GREATER AND LESSER
YELLOWLEGS made an appearance as well.

The Great Egret is still hanging around the south end of Stanley Lake.
