I spent a few hours birding in the AM and a couple in
the PM, mainly looking for passerines around Coos
Bay-the weather was gorgeous with no wind. The duck
numbers are really increasing though with several
thousand present at Pony Slough. Here are the
highlights of the day:

1- SAY'S PHOEBE, seen flycatching from the fenceline
at the end of Transpacific Lane (the road out to the
north spit of Coos Bay).

Also out on the north spit were 10 CANVASBACK and over
one hundred BUFFLEHEAD (they are finally back in
number). Two PALM WARBLERS were also still around. I
couldn't find any longspurs but there are still at
least 80 pipits around.

Over at Millicoma Marsh the 1st winter HARRIS' SPARROW
is still coming to the seed near the second kiosk
(east of the parking area) along the trail. Also,
present among the sparrow horde were 3 WHITE-THROATED
SPARROWS.

Merry November,
Tim R
Coos Bay
