[obol] Re: Pelican swallows pigeon

I brought up this story in a meeting tonight and Roy Lowe mentioned he'd seen
pelicans going after murre chicks (I need a clarification if he actually saw
pelicans swallow them)....I've seen large numbers of murres (and gulls and
cormorants) disperse when pelicans land on the rocks at Yaquina Head and I
always thought this was just because of their intimidating
wing-span/size/shadow but now I'm re-thinking that. This is especially
interesting because pelicans are increasing there.

Curious to know if anyone else has seen a pelican go after murres or any other
non-fish food.

Also getting more curious about the possible predation at night on those rock
colonies....rats, racoons, etc...might be a fun place to take some night vision
goggles.
