On April 30 of this year, I photographed some Least Sandpipers at Jackson
Bottoms in Hillsboro, Washington County. One of the birds had a large
amount of white in the wings. In reviewing the photos now relative to the
field and reference guides I own, I am wondering if the amount of white in
the wings is expected for that time of year. My understanding of molt
timings is weak, and I'm not sure I'm correctly interpreting the
molt/plumage writings I have access to. And I've never really studied Least
Sandpipers in flight.
Photos on the web at: http://www.westerngrebe.com/peep/
I would very much appreciate the insight of the Oregon birding community.
Thanks,
