We were out at Jackson Bottoms a week ago Sunday and also had a Swamp Sparrow, Brown Creeper (2), GC Kinglets in a mixed flock with BC Chickadees and RC Kinglets. I heard but did not see a Pileated Woodpecker. I have only been there a few times and did not know that any of these sightings were unusual - learn something new everyday.
Thanks, Mike Gellerman
One set of rufous secondaries among the hundreds of LINCOLN'S SPARROWS along
the beginning of the nature trail at Jackson Bottom Wetlands, Hillsboro,
today, belonged to a SWAMP SPARROW. There may have been more than one, but
the sparrows are moving around quite a bit. They are all crowded into the
upper grassy areas, as most of the wetlands is under water. Oddly, I did not
hear any calls belonging to the SWAMP SPARROW.
Also unusual for the area were BROWN CREEPER, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, and
PILEATED WOODPECKER. A VIRGINIA'S RAIL called and flew briefly through the
grass.
