Earlier I reported a Willet from Sauvie Island this morning. Since then I
have received several emails in regard to this so I thought I would respond
to them all here. I had not been aware of the rarity of this sighting and
therefore question my ID. Having said that though, what I saw was a large,
very pale shorebird roughly the size, shape and color of a non-breeding
Willet terribly far away and through heat distortion. There are not many
other birds that fit this bill, although there are a few. I would say this
definitely needs to be substantiated. I could not see the bill or wing
pattern. The ID was mainly based on the jizz of the bird. I saw the bird
from the dike overlooking Sturgeon Lake from the south. Please let me know
what you find! I will try to get back out there and see what I can, paying
closer attention this time. I am sure about the Willow Flycatcher and my
Northern Harrier numbers which were huge. Thanks to everyone for their
emails.
Eyes to the skies,
Chris Warren
