Hi Folks,
Found a LONG-EARED OWL yesterday. A big surprise when it came
busting out of the willow thicket! It was roosting in a thick stand
of willows along the OC & E trail out at Godowa Springs Rd. just west
of Beatty. We walked about 1.5 miles east on the trail. I had
walked by the area thinking "This is a great place for L-e Owl," and
looking sort of but it was so thick I couldn't see too much. On the
way back we were walking sort of fast and all of a sudden the owl
flushed. I either spooked two owls or saw the same one twice
because it spooked again a few minutes later and farther down the
trail. Fun!
I also saw 10-12 SNIPE near the trailhead at Godowa Springs Rd.
Lots of WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, a few GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS, MARSH
WRENS, a LINCOLN'S SPARROW, NORTHERN HARRIER, PIED-BILLED GREBE. At
other places on sections of the trail or nearby there were MOUNTAIN
BLUEBIRDS and WESTERN BLUEBIRDS.
On another section of the trail, farther east and north on the way to
Sycan Marsh, we found 2 GRAY JAYS, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES, a FOX
SPARROW, MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES, AND DARK-EYED JUNCOS.
Good birding y'all,
