  Subject: [obol] Trapping pest birds

I can't twist their heads off either, too cruel!

I usually put the wire sparrow trap on top of my bird cage with fat, lively
and healthy House sparrows already in it.

That way it mostly attracts House sparrows.

This is one trap I don't put out unless I'm available to keep a close watch
on it so I can release native birds that might be caught.

When their dear little hearts turn to love in the late winter, I prepare my
nest-box trap for use by being sure the door can easly drop and I add a nice
grass nest inside to encourage entry.

This trap attracts both House sparrows and Starlings and so far, nothing
  else.

To "off" the little pests, I use the tried, quick and true method of
decapitation, drowning must be terrifying to them as well as efforts to
twist off their heads and even though a bird with a broken neck can't move
or cry out, it's conscious and aware it's can't breath as it slowly
sufforcates because it's repiratory muscles are paralized, but the heart
continues to beat until it's out of oxygen.

The hatchet may not be "bloodless" but it's much quicker for the poor little
  bird.

As you can tell, I don't hate them, they didn't ask to be brought over here
and their just following their instincts to survive and flourish.

  Sheila from Harbor OR.
