A pair of LAPLAND LONGSPURS were at the Molalla sewer treatment ponds this afternoon. The birds were at the south-west corner of the first pond. They were moving back and forth over the pond road into the brush and were not shy. Other birds included a RUDY DUCK, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, WHITE-FRONTED GEESE, RING-BILLED GULLS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, SAVANNAH SPARROW, A SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER (by call) and several other common species of birds.

For anyone not familiar with the ponds, here's the drill:

The sewer plant is located near Molalla. It is a short distance west of highway 213 on Toliver Road. The plant is only open on weekdays and closes at 3:30 pm. The employees are amicable to birders thanks to years of effort by Elmer Specht, but make sure to let an employee know you are there and park up the bank next to the building. You must go through a gate to get up to the ponds. Please make sure it is always chained as they often keep llamas or other grazing critters inside the fence.

PS Watch for llama and goose poop on the pond road!
