Got a little birding in today, maybe more tomorrow... Malheur NWR HQ was
fairly birdy at around 1030 this morning. Highlight was a BLUE JAY.... it called
once too, but I did see it well. since I'm from Pennsylvania, where the sound
of the Blue Jay is af undamentally winter sound (they call all year, of
course, but in winter, when it is cold and there is snow on the ground and
hanging in the trees, it just RINGS!). I think I also saw an RED FOX SPARROW...
can't be 100% sure, but pretty close.
Also saw 2 VARIED THRUSHES at Benson Pond on the Refuge.
Fall is absolutely stunning out here. The peak of fall leaves has passed,
but Steens Mountain and the Pueblos were spectacular. I don't miss humidity,
mold, long strings of cloudy days, long strings of rainy days... you get the
picture.
