I forgot to mention that Graham and I saw about 250 geese come in yesterday
south of Florence. The larger flock, 150 birds, came in quite high from the
northwest and looked like passage migrants just reaching the coast. That
flock was large birds except for one Cackler-sized bird, which made quite a
contrast. They were descending but the nearest decent place for that many
geese was probably Dean Creek, 25 miles south, or the lower Smith River.
We also had a pair of Greater Scaup near the crab dock, arrivals off the
ocean, first of season. No Bufflehead yet.
