The Cove: S. Seaside at the base of Tillamook Head: Clatsop Co.

I counted exactly 50 BLACK TURNSTONE with a single SURFBIRD in front of
the Lanai Motel at The Cove this evening. Eva yelled raspingly at the
100 or so HEERMAN'S GULLS (her best gull impression) that were attending
the nearby rocks. Thousands of seabirds were working the bait in the
near offshore region. Still lots of mole crabs in the sand along the
tide edge--enough that they were attracting the attentions of numerous
urchins and their attending adults, humans that its. They seemed pleased
that a was able to give them a name for the little buggers--the mole
crabs that is.

More HEERMAN'S GULLS (over 100) have been staging on the river and
nearby motel and apt. roofs along the Necanicum River and Avenue I. down
from my house. A GREATER YELLOWLEGS was also around. I only saw a few
California Tortoiseshells today, no doubt due to the shift in wind
direction since Friday.
