Graham Floyd and I went out to Royal Avenue at Fern Ridge this morning but
could not find the Buff-breasted Sandpiper. At the Redhead Pond we found
half a dozen Semi Plovers, about 75 peeps (roughly split 50-50 Western and
Least), a Long-billed Dowitcher flyover, both yellowlegs and at least three
Virginia rails out wandering around. We later had a flyover Baird's near
there.

At the end of Royal we went north on the dried mud as far as the two old
logs. Shorebirds visible were perhaps 250 peeps, lots of Least on the near
flats and lots of Westerns out by the terns, a couple of yellowlegs, about a
dozen Semi Plovers, a few distant dowitchers, 38 pelicans, Caspian Terns,
Ring-billed and Cal Gulls, a large flock of Green-winged Teal, two wigeon,
gadwall, pintail, geese and loads of Pied-bileld Grebes and coots. There
was also a Pectoral calling somewhere that I could never see. As we were
leaving we had three fly-in pipits, my first of the season.
