Hi Dave and Kathy...

My wife and I regularly bird the Umpqua jetty and south to "third beach" and
have never seen Black Oystercatchers in that area. My experience with
BLOY's indicate they like rocks that have more gradual slopes into the
water, preferably completely detached from the shoreline. I have seen them
on the Curry/Coos beaches but always in the presence of the before
described rocks. I could imagine they would rest or perhaps stay for a
limited time on a jetty like the Umpqua but wouldn't likely stay (anybody have
contrary research?).

So far, in our neck of the woods, we have been enjoying the Red Necked
Phalaropes, Heermans Gulls, Common Murres (with young, serious
vocalizations going on!) occasional Tern activity and plenty of Pelicans. The
most interesting sights lately are Horned Larks and a single Sooty Blue
Grouse right next to the beach in some Pinus Contorta. Oh, and the Barn
Swallows have been thick...

Heather and I still have to get down to the Tenmile estuary. We don't have
ATV's which means we will have quite the walk I suppose. But, we want to
get down there.

Thanks for the Tenmile Estuary notes, we look forward to them.
