Today while on one of journeys around Molalla River SP I located a flock of Black Swifts. The birds were circling just over the tops of cottonwoods at the small ponds that run along the south side of the park. They stayed in a tight group with never more than about 25 to 50 yards of separation between all the members. Occasionally one of the birds would come down below the tree tops and through the upper branches of the cottonwoods. The birds fanned their tails frequently in flight. The flock numbered at 10 minimum count. After nearly 5 minutes of observation, the flock shot quickly off toward the Willamette River and out of sight. I did not see them again during the hour I remained in the park. The birds were seen just before 1 pm today. A county lifer for me and pretty exciting with nice views. Anyone south of Canby might want to check out just above the tree tops of parks near the river this evening. Al Ahlgrim, Oregon City
