Birders -
While checking OBOL today (09/16), I noticed the brief mention of a possible
male RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD from Pendleton, OR. I called a Pendleton
Bird Club member and he informed me of the little information he had on this
bird. A possible first state record is always exciting, so I decided to cut out
early from work and look for the bird. Shivonne Nesbit and I left La Grande
around 3:30 PM and arrived at in Pendleton around 4:30 PM. About 5 minutes
into our search we saw a Hummingbird fly by. I went back to the truck to get
my spotting scope. When I returned Shivonne was watching a Hummingbird at
the feeder. It flew into a nearby Fir and perched for 10 minutes or so. I
got the scope on it. The deeply forked tail, white post ocular spot, and
brilliant red gorget were in plain sight with good lighting from about 25 feet.
Two pictures can be viewed at:

I also have some mpeg video, digital video, and some additional jpeg frames.
This is most definitely a male RUBY-THROATED HUMMINGBIRD. The bird flew to
the feeder once more before disappearing in a nearby Locus? tree. I am
sorry I have not provided directions, but I am not sure what the owner of the
feeders wishes are.
Good Birding,
