[obol] Benton Co. NAMC results

With the last party checking in, total species seen in Benton Co. on Sunday, Sept. 17th, 2006 reached 100.  Don Boucher has posted highlights from his party's day at Finley.  I'll just add a few other highlights and an overall summary.

When Paula Vanderheul and I checked Cabell Marsh, we found the following shorebirds:

Semipalmated Plover - 1
Greater Yellowlegs - 3 (plus 4 more seen by Don Boucher)
Spotted Sandpiper - 1
Western Sandpiper - 25
Least Sandpiper - 35
PECTORAL SANDPIPER - 1

With the exception of another 13 Least Sandpipers and a Wilson's Snipe in the Toketie Marsh/E.E. Wilson area, and 1 Spotted Sandpiper in a small wetland, no other shorebirds were detected in Benton Co.

Lingering summer or migrating out birds seen included:

Green Heron - 3
Turkey Vultures - 67
Osprey - 3
Band-tailed Pigeons - 15
Cinnamon Teal - 15
Vaux's Swift - 5
Rufous Hummingbird - 1
Western Wood-Pewee - 5
Empidonax, sp. - 1
Violet-green Swallows - 1,071
Barn Swallows - 800
Swainson's Thrush - 30
Hermit Warbler - 1
Common Yellowthroat - 35
Western Tanager - 1

Among recent arrivals (including migrants):

Ring-necked Duck - 4
White-tailed Kite - 1
Golden-crowned Kinglet - 23
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 1
Varied Thrush - 3
Chipping Sparrow - 16
Fox Sparrow - 5
Lincoln's Sparrow - 3
Golden-crowned Sparrow - 10

There isn't a formal 'count week' for this count, but an additional 5 species were seen during this period:

Evening Grosbeak 3+ (9/15, in Corvallis)
Wilson's Warbler - 1 (9/16)
Cassin's Vireo - 1 (9/16)
Eared Grebe - 1 (9/18 at Philomath Sewage Ponds)
Ruddy Duck - 1 (9/18 at Philomath Sewage Ponds)
