We stopped by BASKETT SLOUGH briefly yesterday and along with the GREAT BLUE HERONs, CANADA GEESE, EGRETS and a HARRIER we had a WILSON'S SNIPE in the small remaining pond along the inner road. I have posted photos at http://www.flickr.com/photos/82005481@N00/ for those interested.
I am curious why the Sibley's Western shows WILSON'S SNIPE (Gallinago delicata) and Sibley's North America shows COMMON SNIPE (Gallinago gallinago) for apparently the same bird. Is this a recent split (my other field guides also show Common) or a rename?
