Hi Obolers!
Made a quick trip to Ridgefield NWR today and was joined by Roger Windemuth.
We had no problems relocating the juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER at Rest
Lake. Had great views of the perky plover for five minutes before it
decided to go up, up and away and was never relocated. That may be the last
of it. He saw the window of nice weather and once the fourth car approached,
it took off...
The BLACKPOLL WARBLER was last seen on Wednesday by Roger Windemuth.
No signs of the SHARP TAILED SANDPIPER or RUFFS but a fine day at the
refuge. The sharp tailed was last reported yesterday in the late afternoon
by Jim Dazenbaker.
A few PECTORALS and LEAST SANDPIPERS are still around.
The subadult WHITE SHOULDERED KITE was at his usual perch, near the
observation blind. The vociferous RED SHOULDERED HAWK was heard several
times but not seen. One adult BALD EAGLE was also in the area.
Three lovely pairs of SANDHILL CRANES enchanted us with swirling duet
flights in the distance.
Nice to meet up with Jim Dazenbaker, Steve Halprin, and Merlin.
Good birding,
Khanh Tran (Portland, Oregon)
