Today was our first day for ECBC hawkwatch on Green Ridge for the season. It was a beautiful clear day with winds out of the East and temp. around 60 degrees F. It turned out to be our slowest day with 51 migrating raptors counted as follows.
Sharp- shinned Hawks 22
Cooper's Hawk 5
Red-Tailed Hawk 7
Merlin 1
Bald Eagle 1
Turkey Vulture 12
Unident. Accip. 3
We also saw a Golden Eagle and Prairie Falcon going the wrong way to count.
we also saw over 30 species from Indian Ford CG to the site which included turkeys to humming birds. One of the most interesting sightings was an all day long movement of N. Flickers flying in a southern direction down the ridge. Saw 3 Lewis Woodpeckers doing the same. Contact Khan Tran for a complete bird list.
