Paula Vanderheul led a field trip for Audubon Society of Corvallis to Lincoln Co. today. We visited Boiler Bay, Siletz Bay from around 62d St. in Lincoln City, South Jetty Yaquina Bay, Seal Rock, Beaver Creek, Idaho Point (briefly) and Sally's Bend.
The news for today was the high numbers of BROWN PELICANS. They were everywhere (except Beaver Cr). They were often accompanied by HEERMANN'S GULLS. The largest concentration was surprisingly at the north end of Sally's Bend where more than 200 Brown Pelicans stood in the emerging mud flats. There were also about 64 GREAT EGRETS in the same location.
