Folks,

Thought I forward this message Northern Cal, where 2 Common Moorhens and 
a Red-throated Pipit were seen just south of the OR border.

Moorhens can be seperated from the very similar species American Coot by 
the slope on the forehead and the general feeding jizz which is 
different than Coots.  Moorhens bounce when they feed, Coots rock and roll.

Pipits can be....oh forget it...

Ron LeValley and I had these birds at Lake Earl the last two days:

September 26

Say's Phoebe - at Cadre Point, Lake Earl

Northern Mockingbird - Lakeview Dr.

Common Moorhen (2) - at extreme north end of Lake Earl, accessed through
Pacific Shores. These were walking/foraging on the algae mat bordering the
rushes while coots were swimming/foraging nearby. These were not immature
coots. They were noticeably smaller, browner, had bright yellow legs and
white flank stripes. When something flushed all the birds, they ran into the
rushes while the coots flew away. I also had a BCNH, AMBI, SORA (3+) and
VIRA (5+) there on the 27th. Also, I was very impressed to count over 80
PBGR in that one small cove! They were truly packed in there. What a great
place.

September 27

Cape May Warbler - An adult female was with Townsends Warblers and
chickadees in the pines (mostly) at Pacific Shores. I took the 7th left
turn after turning onto Tell road from Kellogg rd. Then I went to the 5th
crossroad, almost to the lake shore where I had the moorhens. The flock was
moving around this junction. The Cape May seemed to be associating most with
TOWA.

Red-throated Pipit - Ron found this bird at Cadre Point with AMPI's and
LALO's. He also had two BASA and one PESA there.

Rough-legged Hawk - an immature bird was seen and photographed at Teal
Point.

Clay-colored Sparrow - one was seen fly-catching (!) from the ground and low
vegetation near Teal Point.

Red Knot - one at the Talawa narrows

Horned Lark (2) - both immature, near the Talawa mouth

Say's Phoebe - still at Cadre Point

Greater White-fronted Geese (4) - Cadre Point, McLaughlin Ranch

Lapland Longspur (4) - Cadre Point, McLaughlin Ranch

Peregrine Falcon (2) -- adults, around the Talawa narrows

Merlin (1)

Horned Lark (2) - immatures, near the Talawa mouth
