Hiked the PCT going south from Lava Lake Trailhead to Yapoah Crater. Highlights included: big (about 75) flock of very active DARK-EYED OREGON JUNCOS at South Matthieu Lake; lots of GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS all along the trail; a tight flock of about 25 BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS at South Matthieu Lake. On the way home, just west of McKenzie Pass a GREAT GREY OWL flew low across the road and then perched on a fence post. We had good looks at each other as I very slowly drove past.
