OBOL,
On March 29 Laura and I found the found a pair of Western Scrub Jays in the Arlington cemetery. They probably are breeding in that location now.
Lots of Long-biled Curlews along Rhea Road east of Arlington.
On March 30 along Rock Creek about four miles west of Olex: one Long-eared Owl, and a little further on, with a flock of White-crowned Sparrows were four Brewer's Sparrows. I had looked in Gilliam for both the owl and the Brewer's Sparrows for a long time, and on this day found both of them within five minutes of each other! Ah, birding! By the way, isn't it a bit early for Brewer's Sparrow?
Also in the Arlington cemetery there was a black bird giving a very Raven-like guttural low croak, but it was an American Crow, leaning forward and uttering the call to its mate. A few minutes later, we saw the same crow in another tree going through the same behavior, but this time it was giving a dove-like cooing note! I guess he was really serious about romance.
