[obol] Know of any Great Horned Owl locations?

Some of you may remember my previous two emails-- one in January and the other in March. To sum things up and keep this email short, I'm a college student doing research on the calling pattern of the great horned owl. I've been making recordings of GHO's around the Portland/Hillsboro/Beaverton area with a Sennheiser ME-66 shotgun microphone and Hi-MD recorder.

My research and data is all due in a few more weeks, so I figured I would send out one last email to see if anyone could tip me off on any more great horned owl locations so I could up my sample size even more before its all said and done. I got a handful of responses from people I didn't hear from in my first email, so I figured I would maybe try to catch a few more in a third email! This should be the last time I bug you about owls.

Right now my sample size is at about five (I have a few 'shady' recordings of another pair... not sure if I am going to be able to clean it up enough to analyze it, though). So, if you have seen and/or heard a great horned owl within the last month or so at a particular area around the Portland/Hillsboro/Beaverton area, I would sincerely appreciate any leads! Feel free to email me if you have any concerns or questions about anything whatsoever (I basically just need to be within hearing distance of a GHO-- my mic is pretty sensitive and can pick the hooting up from quite a distance). I'm mostly looking for really good, reliable locations-- don't have a lot of time to hunt and peck right now. However, if you even just "think" there might be a GHO somewhere, I'd still love to hear from you. Depending on my schedule over the next few weeks, I am going to check as many places as possible.

This project wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the handful of you who gave me good leads to owl locations and advice on owling in general (when my project is finished I'll be sure to contact all of you who have helped me so much, so this won't be my last email-- just my last email to OBOL about owls). OBOL has by far been the most helpful source of information in doing this project and I sincerely apprecate all the time you guys/gals have spent emailing me. I'd be lost without this mailing list.

Thanks again.

Corey
