Hello All,
I found this note interesting because over the years we too have noticed
distinct size differences here in the interior Ring-billed Gull population.

According to Dr.C. Jamison-Smyth of the University of North Umbrea there is
in deed a reason that these "smaller" ring-billed gulls are so different and
that is they maybe an entirely new species. These smaller birds display
solid black primary tips from p-10 through p-7. These smaller birds also
show a white iris and scarlet red eye ring during breeding season. These
small ring-billed gulls may come to be known as the "Lesser Ring-billed
Gull" Be on the lookout for this possiable new species here in Oregon.
Later Mike
