OBOL:
On 31 Mar., 2007, east of Keno and in pine tablelands above Klamath R. Canyon:
1- MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRD in body feather molt; WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER - 1, drumming out pattern; several SOOTY GROUSE drumming; 2, lone, MOUNTAIN QUAIL flushing, and many fresh TURKEY tracks in dirt road seen around 1 area.
On 1 Apr., 2007, Putnam's Point: 200+ WESTERN/CLARK'S GREBE, some mirroring, one pair veggie offering, only 1-2 rushing upon the water while there 45 mins. (significant jump in numbers from last weekend) ; 5 - HORNED GREBE, in various stages of molt, none in full alternate plumage yet, some close. 3 - AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, two, with horns, came into Lake Ewauna from the south, landed in the water, and were there for approx. 2 min.,when another approached from the south. As it neared the two on the water, the two lifted off and joined the third, which did not have a horn and might have been last year's hatch. The group continued on northward through the Link River Canyon towards Upper Klamath Lake. I thought that it was nice of the two to "wait up" for the third as I think they just arrived in the Basin on that day.
200-300 RING-BILLED GULL, in stunning alternate plumage upclose at boatlaunch area of Veteran's Park, where people show up to "support wildlife" with bread. I'm sure the vitamin enriched bread is going directly to vivid colorization of bills and gapes. I've only seen a few of the Roseate plumaged birds this year.
SAVANNAH SPARROW, 40, Straits Drain near Township Rd., seemed like a dense flock.
